Examples
In this section you will find several sample layouts created by KbdEdit,
which demonstrate various concepts and capabilities of the program:
Each example is published as a KBE file which can be imported into KbdEdit
using Import KBE file.
You can use the Player edition to deploy
an example in its original form; a Full or
Lite edition is needed for the deployment of a
modified version.
Unless otherwise noted, the examples are based on standard "US English"
layout. If this is already your default layout, you can use KBE files directly
in their unchanged form, otherwise you will have to make the same changes in your own
layout/language.
Each example contains detailed step-by-step instructions on how to create it.
The following operations are common to all examples, and are hence stated only
once here instead of being repeated for each example:
- You should first start KbdEdit, of course, and open the layout
which you want to customize. If you want to customize your default layout,
KbdEdit helps you by opening it automatically at startup.
- If you want to customize a layout other than your default, or if
you used Options dialog to turn off the option
Open default layout at startup, you will have to use
Open or
Manage language bar list dialog
to explicitly open the desired layout.
- At any point during customization, you can switch to the
Preview mode to test your changes.
- When you have finished the customization, and are happy with the
results, choose Save to save your modifications.
This will bring up the Save As dialog, in which
you can define the customized layout's properties.
- Be sure to leave the Add
to language bar list check-box checked - this will make your customized
layout immediately accessible to all Windows applications through the
Language Bar.
